Kern Road Mennonite Church, South Bend, IN seeks a thoughtful, passionate person of Anabaptist Christian faith commitments with good people skills; capable of relating to all ages, but especially youth and young adults.  This pastor will join a seasoned Pastoral Team of two others and a diverse, gifted, open-to-change congregation on a journey into the future.

Last Sunday, August 27, KRMC kicked-off My Coins Count during the Lawn Service. Mennonite Central Committee uses this ongoing fundraising campaign throughout the US and Canada to connect with children. Many congregations, including Kern Road Mennonite, have traditionally used this as a tool to promote the MCC clean water programs, leading up to the annual Mennonite Relief Sale in Goshen, IN.

During the kick-off our children learn a more about MCC and how our church is part of a bigger community of supporters. They got to makes some noise as the walked about collecting coins, in metal bowls, from the congregation. We were all introduced the new My Coins Count song, written by Les Gustafson-Zook. Every child was able to use their collection to feed into the water jug during the regular, weekly offering.

The kids will continue to collect coins, each Sunday, leading up to this year's 50th Michiana Relief Sale, September 22-23. We hope to surpass last year's total of $863.82. If you would like to create a challenge or a matching fund, please contact the church office.

Join the fun and by learning the words to the song here. Sheet music is available on the site if you would like to join us with an instrument in the weeks ahead.

Neat fact: My Coins Count was previously called Penny Power. When Canada quit making the penny, MCC decided to update the name of the campaign.

Come celebrate the gifts of women among us! During the last year Pat Frazier and Trudy McManama have been interviewing women who became part of Kern Road during its early years. Now the 19 interviews are being published in a book, The Gifts of Women: Stories from Kern Road Mennonite Church.  We will be presenting complimentary copies to the women who participated and others who were instrumental in getting this project to completion during worship on Mother's Day, May 8th, followed by a reception during Fellowship hour.  We will have copies available for purchase at $12 per book. You are encouraged to preorder by check payable to Kern Road Mennonite Church, with “oral history project” in the memo line.
